The Parish Council decided to covert half of the allotment site into one Community Allotment, this was due to many allotments being left to fall into disrepair, overgrown and not managed. People have busy lives now and do not always have the time to commit to a full allotment on their own. Opening in late Spring 2025 it really flourished, children came along with their parents getting fully involved in growing produce which was later on show at the village fete in September. The older residents of the Parish also received bags of potatoes grown on the plot in December as a Christmas gift.
This has proven to be a real success, so if you want to pop along to help, learn, sit and watch or chat that is fine. The vision for developing this site was not just to get people involved in growing, learning how to grow, but also for a quite place to come along and recharge or make social connections.
The group meet regularly at weekends and during the week to manage the site and also to sit and socialise with many BBQ’s and picnics. We look forward to seeing you there over this years growing season.
We do still have a couple of allotments and the annual plot rental is £40.00 for a large plot or £20.00 per half plot per annum.
The plots are situated at the side of Horses’s Meadow adjacent to Whempstead Lane.
