DELAYS TO ROADWORKS ON THE A602 IMPROVEMENTS SCHEME

DELAYS ON THE A602 ROADWORKS

HERTFORDSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL HAVE ISSUED THE FOLLOWING:-

Work progresses on the A602 Improvements Scheme

Published:

Hertfordshire County Council are working with contractor Tilbury Douglas to deliver improvements on the A602 between Watton-at-Stone and Tonwell.

Construction of the new A602 bridge across the Dane End Tributary near Sacombe Pound is ongoing, however, there is a delay in opening the road due to possible defects that have been identified. A series of further checks and assessments have been commissioned to ensure the structural integrity of the bridge before the road can open to traffic.

These investigations are ongoing, and it’s expected that the bridge, along with the new road, will fully open by summer 2023. Once investigations are complete, we will be able to provide a more accurate date.

The county council is working with Tilbury Douglas to minimise inconvenience to the local communities and users of the route. Work to the new road between Heath Mount School and Stonyhills is taking place with a view to allowing local residents and businesses improved access to Dane End whilst the remaining works are concluded. We will provide further details on the local access route once we have an update from the contractor.

Phil Bibby, Executive Member for Highways and Transport at Hertfordshire County Council said: “We’d like to thank local residents, businesses and road users for their patience while the remaining works are finished. We want to ensure the road and bridge are constructed as intended and provide many years of useful service on this busy part of the highway network.”

Improvement works on the A119 roundabout are complete and the new turn left lane successfully opened in June 2022.

The A602 scheme includes a series of improvements between Stevenage and Ware to bring the road up to current safety standards and improve journey time reliability.

Queens Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

We are happy to say that our Platinum Jubilee Event was a great success and we would like to thank everyone who kindly donated money for the Pensioners Lunch to be held around Christmas time.  Despite gloomy weather warnings we had an excellent turnout, in particular for the Vintage Vehicle Show and the Dog Show.  Many thanks are due to Great Munden Parish Council who managed the dog show extremely well.
